The Urban Art Program is an initiative to invigorate the City’s streetscapes with engaging temporary art installations. Part of the World Class Streets initiative, Urban Art seeks to create public art that helps to foster more vibrant and attractive streets and offer the public new ways to experience New York City’s streetscapes.

4. Exists somewhere between ‘the academy and the street’

The 2011 Human Rights Film Festival will take place from 27th to 30th of January 2011 at Cinema Metropolis Empire Sofil, Beirut. Festivals play a powerful role in turning a delicate issue, like human rights abuses (torture and arbitrary detention, women’s rights, rights of refugees and migrant workers) in an accessible way for the general public. As festivals reach a big audience, this is an important goal that we are willing to achieve through the screening of a series of documentaries on human rights in Lebanon.

Culture Diversity in the Digital Age - Montreal 25/10/2010

is a directory with two main objectives: encouraging mobility of writers in the Mediterranean basin and promoting Mediterranean cooperation between book professionals be them co-productions, co-editions or any type of projects between different countries.

“Writing around the Mediterranean” presents more than fifty centres of creativity in twelve countries. This directory exists in three separate versions – French, Arabic and English – and in a trilingual version. Its clickable form enables an easy navigation from country to country, from residency to residency. 

Access, participation and cultural provision in the context of cultural rights in Europe.

The enjoyment and fulfilment of the right to participate in culture requires an enabling environment and a legal framework that offers a solid basis for the protection of rights related to cultural actions. A society that demonstrates an interest in nurturing cultural and spiritual needs in conditions of liberty has a greater chance of developing a sense of social responsibility among its members.

This study is a general overview of existing legal and policy frameworks in Europe, covering access to and participation in cultural life, cultural provision and cultural rights. It aims at facilitating an environment that enables the development of access and participation in this area. The study also pays due tribute to local civil society organisations and cultural associations, in recognition of the important role they play in making access to culture possible.

Dalla collaborazione fra il Dipartimento Educazione Castello di Rivoli Museo d’Arte Contemporanea e l’Istituto dei Sordi di Torino -insieme per un progetto unico al mondo-, nasce il primo Dizionario di Arte Contemporanea in Lingua dei Segni: presenta un lessico inedito, 80 nuovi segni specifici riferiti all’arte del tempo presente, ideati dal gruppo di ricerca. L’equipe di lavoro, composta da rappresentanti dei due enti, persone sorde e udenti insieme, si è infatti impegnata nell’importante compito di individuare un lessico specifico ancora mancante nella Lingua dei Segni Italiana: l’arricchimento della LIS con la traduzione dei termini specifici è un processo indispensabile se si desidera che l’arte contemporanea possa diventare patrimonio comune per le persone sorde.

Il progetto unisce due mondi strettamente correlati alla dimensione visiva – l’arte e la Lingua dei Segni, linguaggio gestuale e iconico – eppure finora incapaci di comunicare: un esempio di accessibilità culturale totale, un’esperienza pilota per le istituzioni museali. In tal senso, la pubblicazione è redatta in italiano e inglese dato il carattere di innovazione del progetto a livello internazionale.
Il Dizionario accosta a ciascun nuovo segno la descrizione sintetica del termine accompagnata da un’opera d’arte di riferimento; la pubblicazione è pertanto pensata per essere strumento utile non solo per le persone sorde, ma anche per studenti, operatori culturali, educatori, e per chiunque desideri accostarsi alla terminologia di base riferita all’arte contemporanea.
Il volume è pubblicato da Umberto Allemandi Editore, Torino, con il patrocinio di AMACI Associazione Musei d’Arte Contemporanea Italiani.
